Poon Hill trek with Muldai Peak

7 Days

The Poon Hill trek at the foot of the Annapurna Mountains is a well known trek. The trekking not only has beautifully landscaped hiking trails and beautiful views of the snowy peaks of the Himalayas. Also the teahouses along this trek are well developed.

Poon Hill is a hill from which you have a beautiful view of the Annapurna Massif and the Dhaulagiri Mountains. From this vantage point you can see beautiful peaks, fog and valleys. You can see mountains like the Annapurna South (7.219 meters), Machapuchare (6.993 meters), the Hinchuli, the Annapurna III, Dhampus peak, the Dhaulagiri II, and many other high snowy peaks.

The uniqueness of this Poon Hill trek is that you combine it with the less walked path to Muldai Peak. The path is less laid out in this part of the trail and you’ll encounter a lot less other trekkers as well! The mountain views on the other hand are at least as breathtaking. Also from Muldai Peak you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Himalayas!

Moreover, when the weather is clear you will be rewarded with some of the most beautiful sunrises in the Nepalese Himalayas. At both you have a view of the sun rising behind the snowy peaks of the Annapurna Mountains. The view is definitely worth the early rise!

Furthermore, it is up to you to decide which sunrise is the most beautiful. The one from the busier Poon Hill or maybe the one from the less known Muldai Peak?

Itinerary

Namaste and welcome to the impressive Nepal.

Today you drive to Pokhara. You will stop at least once along the way, including at a fairytale spot next to the river for lunch.

In the afternoon you will arrive in Pokhara, where there is plenty to do. Pokhara is situated at the beautiful Phewa lake. When the weather is clear you can see the snowy peaks of the Annapurna chain.

Take a beautiful walk along the banks of the river and watch the locals fishing or repairing their boats. You can also take a boat to the small island. Here you can visit the Tal Barahi temple.

In the evening you can observe an Aarti ceremony on the banks near the temple: Hindu priests perform a ritual offering light (flames) to the gods.

You will spend the night in a standard hotel in Pokhara.

After a ride in a private car, you start your beautiful trekking in the Annapurna. You start in the village of Kimche.

Today there is a nice change between nature and culture. You get acquainted with the daily life of the locals. Some parts you walk along terraced fields, other parts through forests with bamboo and along rhododendrons and oak.

You walk partly on an unpaved road and then take the stairs up until you arrive in Ghandruk. In this picturesque Gurung village you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Hiunchuli and the Machapucchre.

After lunch, follow the path up past the traditional houses of Ghandruk and first climb to a teahouse with stunning views of Annapurna. From here you continue your way through a rhododendron forest until you reach Bhaisi Kharka.
A last short, steep climb brings you to Tadapani.

You spend the night in a teahouse in Tadapani.

After breakfast you leave the ground floor paths and walk through a beautiful rhododendron forest in a more remote region. This less walked path leads you past some unspoiled Nepalese villages and beautiful nature.

After a short climb and then descent, you will ascend almost all the time. Along the way you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Annapurna South Mountains. You walk further through the forest, which slowly changes into an oak and conifer forest. Half an hour further you reach Meshar Danda, from a ledge you have unbelievable views.

You walk further on the path through the forest and after you passed an open slope, you climb further to a small pass where you also see a beautiful temple.

After the pass you will briefly descend through an open valley before you enter the forest again and walk on the ledge. You walk down again to a small river and then up again to Dobato.

If you like and the weather is clear, you can walk another 45 minutes and enjoy a sunset on Muldai Peak.

You will spend the night in a teahouse in Dobato.

Today you're up early! After an early breakfast, hike to Muldai Peak, where you will enjoy a breathtaking sunrise over the snowy peaks of the Himalayas.

From Muldai you walk along a steep path to Banthanti. This is a beautiful and secluded part of the hike: you will encounter few or no other hikers.

You walk on a steep path through a rhododendron forest to Deurali. After crossing a small pass, you descend to Ghorepani. Here you return to the main trail and see many other hikers again.

Ghorepani was a popular stop for the caravans to Tibet. From here you have a view on the impressive Dhaulagiri (8.167 m)! Did you know that the Dhaulagiri is the seventh highest mountain in the world?

You will spend the night in a teahouse in Ghorepani.

Today you're up early again. You leave your luggage in the lodge and climb about 45 minutes to Poon Hill (3210 m) to admire the beautiful views of the Annapurnas and Dhaulagiri at sunrise.

After enjoying this, you will walk back to Ghorepani, where you will have breakfast.

Today you will mainly walk down: a long descent through beautiful rhododendron and oak forests brings you to Birethanti. You walk further to the village of Ulleri. Via a long steep stone staircase you finally reach Hile.

You spend the night in a teahouse in Hile.

The path from Hile descends today on the side of the valley. You walk on the banks of the Bhurungdi River. The path goes through bamboo forests, along a beautiful waterfall and a swimming well.

You pass the last checkpoint and walk further to the village of Birethanti (1000m). After Birethanti you take a bridge and follow the eastern crossing of the Modi Khola river. You cross the river again and follow the path up to Nayapul.

In Nayapul you will be met by a private car that will take you back to Pokhara. You are free to spend the rest of the day in Pokhara.

Overnight stay in a standard hotel in Pokhara.

The end of your journey has come. Time to get back to Kathmandu! You drive back in a private car. You stop again at least 2 times on the way. In the fishing village Malekhu you can taste the locally caught fish in a local restaurant!

In Kathmandu you have the rest of the day free to spend.
